Creating a Breastfeeding Friendly Workplace Strategy for Penn Medicine

As part of my experience while getting my Master's of Public Health at the University of Pennsylvania, I had the opportunity to work with the Faculty Wellbeing Committee at Penn Medicine. I developed a Breastfeeding Friendly Workplace Strategy recommendation for the leadership using a mixed-methods approach. I researched the history and surveyed the current state of lactation support at the institution, and synthesized information from the academic literature, best practice recommendations, stakeholder input, interviews with experts, comparisons of competitor programs, and an institution-wide user survey to inform a strategy. The result was a data-driven, user-centered, feasible plan aligned with institutional priorities and resources. The committee immediately implemented several of my phase one recommendations and the document continues to inform lactation support program improvement at Penn Medicine. Pictured below, see me presenting this work at Penn.
